Lilla Skin & Body Care

A few weeks ago, while I was in N.Y.,I decided to have a facial. I looked up many salons on the website YELP. I wanted to have a facial with organic products, but I also wanted to experience something different and new. When I had my salon in N.Y., I would have facials from my co-workers, but I hardly ever had time to try other salons. This time, I decided to choose one spa, which is quite popular with celebrities. It is not that I trust all celebrities’ choices, but this one had a few actresses as clients whom I like, plus it had good reviews. I hoped not to be disappointed, because it is my job to be critical and I always learned, even from bad experiences. So, the day came and I was very excited to have my anti-ageing facial treatment. The salon of my choice was on Fifth Avenue in a building with lot of offices. Arriving at the salon, the reception area was very plain to my taste, but the receptionist was quite friendly. I filled out the questionnaire regarding my health and products I am presently using on my skin. My esthetician greeted me and then directed me to the facial room. The facial room was also pretty cold looking. Here is the picture of it!
I changed into my robe and awaited for my treatment to begin. After cleaning and toning my skin, the esthetician -who was from Russia- began my treatment with a microdermabrasion.
What is microdermabrassion?
“Microdermabrasion: when tiny crystals are sprayed onto the skin to gently remove the outer layer of our skin. It is basically an exfoliation and skin rejuvenation procedure that leaves skin looking smoother, brighter and younger. It can also decrease the appearance of fine wrinkles and improve the look of scars, such as those caused by acne. Also excellent for uneven skin tone, including age spots and sun-damaged skin.” I had this treatment done many times before, so the feeling was not new. I used to have this machine in my N.Y. salon, now, here in Luxembourg, I am using instead of it diamond peel (which is very similar) and other great organic exfoliants.
My belief is: Exfoliating is one of the most important procedures you can do to keep your skin healthy and youthful. You can use a product daily, weekly or, when you have your monthly facial, your esthetician may use something stronger. After my exfoliation, I was hoping for a nice relaxing face and neck massage, but instead, the esthetician wiped off my skin and right away began the micro-current treatment. I started to feel a slight electrical tingling sensation, which was not too uncomfortable and there was also a slight taste of iron in my mouth.
What is micro-current?
“Micro-current is a stimulation, delivers tiny electrical impulses that mirror the body’s own natural bioelectrical field. In the esthetic field we describe this as a facial toning or non-surgical face lifting.”
I am now in my mid-forties, so I do need a little lifting and toning nowadays! Originally, this treatment was developed for treating facial paralyses. Micro-current therapy is now also used in physiotherapy for pain control. As an esthetic-treatment, micro-current stimulation has been shown to have a number of other benefits: lifting effect on facial muscles, increases blood and lymph circulation, enhances the penetration of the active ingredients of skin care products, increases the production of collagen and elastin. The experience was nice!
The new, and can I say, controversial Oxygen Treatment followed afterwards. My esthetician sprayed concentrated Oxygen on my face. Strange feeling, but nothing too spectacular! I still haven’t made up my mind about this treatment. I think, it plumps up your skin a bit and it gives you a good finish after the previous treatments. If you would like to read more about this treatment, here is a link to a New York Times article:

Unfortunately, the treatment took less than an hour, but my skin felt pretty good afterwards. I wish the treatment would have been more relaxing and the esthetician would have worked more precisely (my make-up was not removed properly and a big black eye was overseen). Although she was a nice girl, anybody could have done this treatment, giving the fact machines were doing all the work. I definitely missed the personal touch in this treatment. My skin felt good, but I was not relaxed! I will offer similar treatments in my salon, but in a more relaxing way! Afterwards, I decided to have a make-up session nearby at Saks on Fifth Ave. and, voila: here is the result! And now, it was time for a Broadway show.
